Gemstones that Radiate Christmas

By Amanda Evans 3 Minute Read

The festive season is cloaked in colour and there’s no better way to celebrate the joy of Christmas than with your favourite coloured gemstones.

The forest green and berry red of holly wreaths that adorn our doors, the winter white of the fur trim of Saint Nicholas’ scarlet red outfit, the ice blue skating rinks, and a rainbow of colourful lights that adorn our streets. These are the colours of Christmas and there are gemstones that radiate them all.

At Christmas time we celebrate with colour and sparkle – whether it’s to lift spirits dampened by the darker evenings or gloomy seasonal weather, or to mirror the happiness often associated with Christmas. As we gather with friends or family and engage in traditional customs, such as the hanging of stockings and decorating of a Christmas tree, this is a time of celebration.

The way in which you style yourself often echoes this sentiment. Whether it’s wearing a bright red lipstick that instantly puts you in the party mood, or proudly parading your favourite sequin top, ‘tis the season to embrace colourful hues and sparkle.

Simply Traditional

We’re all familiar with the traditional colours of berry red and forest green which have a deep-rooted history with several connotations. From religious significance to the more familiar symbolism of the outfit worn by Saint Nicholas and the evergreen fauna such as holly and mistletoe, these colours have been firmly cemented as the traditional colours of Christmas.

Our vivid red ruby or luscious emerald green gemstone jewellery will certainly echo the festive season or add vibrancy to any occasion throughout the year.

The Significance of Blue

Blue also has a historical and religious meaning, with Mary always having been depicted as cloaked in a blue gown, illustrating her significance in the religious calendar. Today the colour blue is most instantly related to the cool weather and icicles that we often see adorned as Christmas lights or decorations on the tree.

The sapphire is one of earth’s most precious gemstones, with the velvety blue coloured sapphire admired by many, including royalty, for its intense blue colour and symbolism of happiness and love.

Contemporary Colours

In recent years we have seen the Christmas colour palette diversify to include a palette of more contemporary colours, welcomed by those who wish to decorate their homes, or themselves, with more subtle shades of colour and sparkle that bring equal measures of joy and happiness during the festive season.

We love this beautiful pink sapphire and diamond suite of jewellery which takes on a softer approach to colour, yet with delightful sparkle.

Follow the Star

Amongst the vivid traditional colours of Christmas and contemporary colour palette that has been embraced in recent decades, the diamond always shines bright. Sparkling like the stars that light up the night sky and the brilliant white lights that adorn our homes, the scintillating sparkle of the diamond will always radiate Christmas.

Our favourite diamond jewellery pieces include these unusual white gold diamond crossover hoops and twist bangle, along with this linear drop pendant. The reality is we’re spoilt for choice this Christmas!
