Terms & Conditions of Selling Your Watch to Us

We are Watches of Switzerland Company Limited (“referred to here as “Us” or “We”) of Aurum House, 2, Elland Road, Braunstone, Leicester LE3 1TT.

Use of this Pre-Owned Watch Sales Service to sell your watch (referred to here as “the Service”) is restricted to individual watch owners in the United Kingdom and the Channel Islands* only who are aged 18 years or older. If you sell watches commercially or you are VAT registered or you are under 18, this Service is not available to you and you should not use it.

*Sales of watches by residents of the Channel Islands may involve import duties or other taxes.

The basis of our contract with you

In order to use the Service, You will be asked to tick the box marked “I have read and agree to the following terms and conditions” to indicate that you have read and agree to be bound by these terms when using the Service. If You fail to tick the box You will be unable to use this Service.

These terms shall govern any agreement between You and Us to the exclusion of any other terms or conditions.

These terms supersede all previous terms and conditions and shall replace any terms previously notified to or by You or which may be implied by trade, custom, practice or course of dealing.

Our employees are not authorised to make any representation concerning the Service including the price for your watch, that is otherwise than in accordance with these terms unless separately confirmed in writing by our Pre-Owned department. You acknowledge that You do not rely on any representation that is not made in accordance with these terms unless separately confirmed in writing by our Pre-Owned department.

No contract to purchase your watch will be formed when We receive your enquiry or when We confirm receipt of your enquiry or if We ask for further information about your watch or when We provide an initial online price for your watch. Our contract with You will only be formed after We have (i) inspected the watch You wish to sell and (ii) We have provided to You a post-watch inspection price for your watch and an offer to buy the watch for that price and (iii)You have accepted that post-watch inspection price on these terms and conditions.

Your promises to us

It is a condition, and you promise to us, that:

All documentation and all packaging You sell with the watch you are offering to sell, are genuine; and

All applicable taxes have been paid in relation to your purchase of the watch you are offering to sell us; and

The watch you offer to sell to us:

  • Is genuine: and
  • Is solely your property and does not belong to anyone else; and
  • Has not been lost or stolen; and
  • Has not been the subject of any insurance claim; and
  • Is not subject to any finance agreement, charge or other third party interest; and
  • Is not a fake, counterfeit, imitation, illegal copy or a non-original; and
  • Does not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party; and
  • Complies with all legal and/or regulatory requirements; and
  • Corresponds to the description You have given to us: and
  • Is of satisfactory quality within the meaning of English consumer law; and
  • Is free from defects in design, materials and workmanship; and
  • Was lawfully purchased by or for you; and

There is nothing about the watch that you have omitted to tell Us that might influence a decision to buy the watch.

You promise that You are aged 18 years or older, you are the legal owner of the watch offered for sale to us and you are offering the watch to us as the owner and not for or on behalf of anyone else. You understand that we may require proof of your purchase of the watch. We will also require 2 different forms of ID. One must be a passport (or other valid proof of identity) or photo driving license. The Service cannot be used without these.

We may reject the watch if you cannot prove your identity, or your purchase of the watch, to our satisfaction.

You promise that by offering to sell Us a watch using this Service You are an individual member of the public and NOT a business, organisation, cooperative or trader (whether sole, market or otherwise),You do not sell watches commercially and are not VAT registered.

You agree that Our initial offer price(s) shall not be used by You on or for any other website(s)/mobile application(s) or on any price comparison websites/services.

You are not permitted to use this Service to create, check, confirm, update, modify or amend your own or another person's databases, records or directories.

If You use this Service, We will require details of your watch including make, model, serial number and condition. It is important that You provide all requested information fully and accurately. The initial online price We will provide for your watch will be based solely on the information supplied by You. You promise that your description of your watch is accurate and not misleading. An inaccurate, false or misleading description may lead to an inaccurate offer price for the watch, which will be reviewed and may subsequently be decreased.

Not all customers are experts in assessing the condition of their watch, therefore, we carry out a thorough inspection of every watch before making a firm offer to buy it. All initial offer prices are therefore provided on a "Subject to Contract and Inspection" basis and are not legally binding.

You agree that we may inspect the watch You offer for sale and You acknowledge that Our inspection may involve removing the back of the watch case and inspecting the movement of the watch.

If We consider that the watch is not as described by You or its value is other than initially assessed, the post inspection price that We offer for it will differ from the initial price. We will email you a different price and the contract between You and Us will be formed only if and when You accept that different price on these terms.

Upon inspection of your watch, if any item is not in accordance with these terms We may in our sole discretion reject the item and make it available for your collection at one of our showrooms.. We will require photo proof of your identification in order to release the watch to You.

If We find that your watch has been reported lost or stolen or We have reason to believe it has been stolen or lost or has been the subject of an insurance claim or is counterfeit, fake, an imitation, an illegal copy, a non-original product or an infringement of third party rights, We may in our sole discretion either remove any branding which We reasonably believe has been applied to your watch without the correct brand owners authority and/or retain, quarantine and/or dispose of those items and/or the watch without any compensation or payment to You . All such items will not be paid for, will not be returned and We may report such incidents to the relevant brand owners and/or authorities including law enforcement agencies. If We have paid You for any watch that We deem to be lost, stolen, the subject of an insurance claim, counterfeit, fake, an imitation, an illegal copy, a non-original product or an infringement of third party rights, We will treat the contract with You as never having been made and all sums paid to You by Us shall be repaid to Us within 7 days of our email to You to this effect. You agree that the determination as to the originality or status of the watch is at our sole discretion. Our decision that the watch is lost, stolen, subject to an insurance claim, fake, counterfeit, imitation, illegal or an infringement of third party rights will be taken reasonably but is final and no further discussion on this will be entered into by Us.

You agree to compensate us for all losses, damages, actions, awards and/or claims arising from Our possession, grading, inspecting, assessing, reviewing, offering for sale, selling, altering and/or destroying your watch, if it does not accord with these terms or when purchased from You, it is stolen, lost, the subject of an insurance claim, counterfeit, fake, imitation, an illegal copy, a non-original product or it infringes third party rights.

Price & Payment

All prices quoted as part of this Service for the purchase of watches will be in pounds sterling.

There are two prices and payment options available (both in relation to the initial price and post-watch inspection price).

  1. The first payment option and price will be for a bank transfer (by BACS) of the price of your watch to You.
  2. The second payment option and price will be a value to be added to one of Our gift cards to be spent at one of Our Watches of Switzerland, Goldsmiths or Mappin & Webb showrooms or one of the mono-branded showrooms We operate – these are showrooms operated by Watches of Switzerland Company Limited under the shop fascia of either Rolex or Tudor or Breitling or Tag Heuer or Omega or Longines. Generally (but not always), the initial price and post-watch inspection price for the purchase of your watch for value added to Our gift card will be higher than the initial online price and post-watch inspection price for a bank transfer of the purchase monies.

You may NOT alter or update the payment method once We have accepted your choice of payment method.

The price of your watch will be confirmed following Our inspection of the watch and this price will be fixed for 7 days after which it will lapse and will no longer be capable of acceptance by You. If you choose the option of a bank transfer, the payment will be made by means of a BACS transfer. This transfer will be into the bank account nominated by You. It is your responsibility to ensure that accurate details of your bank account are provided to Us correctly. We will not be liable if You fail to receive a payment or suffer any loss, including but not limited to a payment being sent to an incorrect account or recipient, as a result of any failure by You to correctly, completely and accurately provide and/or submit all payment details to Us.

If You choose to have the agreed post-watch inspection price loaded on to one of Our gift cards then You will be asked first to agree to the individual terms and conditions of use for our Gift Cards which are set out at the foot of these terms. You must agree to the Gift Card terms and conditions in order for You to choose this payment method and before the gift card is issued to You. If You do not agree to the Gift Card terms then You will be unable to receive the proceeds of your sale in this way. The terms of our Gift cards are incorporated into these Terms and conditions.

We aim to complete transactions and send payment to the account details You have given Us or issue You with your Gift Card within 5 working days of You accepting the final post-inspection price. However, this cannot be guaranteed and the process may take up to 10 working days depending on the level of checks required and the time of year.

You agree that some of the payment methods made available to You depend on third parties who We cannot and do not control to process these payments including, but not limited to, payments by bank transfer (BACS). We will not be liable for delay in receipt of payment as a result of the actions or inactions of such third parties. Payments may be subject to validation and security checks that We or third parties may require at Our/their discretion from time to time.

Whilst We endeavour to always provide accurate prices and payments for watches, it is possible, as a result of human error or system failure, that an incorrect price may be quoted or an over payment may be made to You. If We discover an error with Our price or payment, this will be corrected at the earliest possible opportunity and the purchase will be cancelled. If any purchase monies have been transferred to You either by a BACS transfer or by creation of a Gift Card, they will be refundable to Us immediately. We cannot be held responsible for human error or system failure and are not obliged to pay You the incorrect price quoted or any overpayment made.

If You are resident in the Channel Islands there may be additional taxes or duties to pay when selling your watch to Us and/or declarations to make about the watch if it comprises certain materials such as an animal skin strap. Such taxes, duties and declarations are your responsibility and You must confirm to Us when You have completed them.

Please note that when We sell any watch purchased from You the sale price We seek will probably be higher than any of the prices we have offered to You but there are numerous reasons for this including the fact that We may undertake various works to the watch to restore it.

Part Exchange

If You decide to part exchange your watch for any item or gift card supplied by Us, there will be two transactions, one being the sale of the watch to Us which will be subject to these terms and one being the supply of the item or gift card by Us which will be subject to our terms of sale/gift card terms. We do not accept part-exchanges in our Airport showrooms.

Delivery Of Your Watch To Us and Insurance

If You accept the final post- watch inspection price for your watch, We will issue You with a transaction number. We offer the following ways to send your watch to us and in each case, You will need to ensure that You provide your watch together with the transaction number issued to You for that watch.

You may take your watch to any of the Watches of Switzerland , Goldsmiths or Mappin & Webb showrooms or to any of the mono-branded showrooms operated by Us – these are showrooms operated by Watches of Switzerland Company Limited under any of the following fascia: Rolex or Tudor or Breitling or Tag Heuer or Omega or Longines. You will be given a receipt for the watch and it will be forwarded to Our Pre-Owned Head Quarters. Alternatively, you may send your watch using a reputable courier or post service to Pre-Owned Department, Aurum House, 2 Elland Road, Braunstone, Leicester. Leicestershire. LE3 1TT.

In each case, it is always prudent to insure your watch for loss or damage until we have completed the transaction with you.

It is a condition that all watch(es) have been properly and sufficiently packaged and labelled by you with the correct transaction number.

If ever You send a watch to Us, or if We send a watch to You, via a courier or any other tracked means, it is your responsibility to track the item and arrange for safe delivery of it to You.

Your watch will be insured by us whilst in transit from our showroom to our Head Quarters but the value of the watch for this purpose will be up to the price We have placed on the watch prior to our inspection of it. No other valuations will be accepted other than that of our initial pre-inspection price for this insurance purpose so if You require it to be insured at a higher value whilst in transit between our premises You should insure the watch yourself for that higher sum with your own insurers.


If You take your watch to one of Our showrooms, we shall be responsible for your watch from the time when a receipt for it is issued in Our showroom. If you send Us your watch by any other means, We shall be responsible for your watch only when it is actually received by Us and You are responsible for any loss or damage occurring prior to Our receipt of your watch so it is essential that You package it securely and insure it appropriately.

Ownership Of Your Watch

The watch You offer to sell Us must be solely your property and not belong to anyone else either wholly or partly. If it is your watch, it will remain your property until a confirmed post-watch inspection price is agreed between You and Us and payment is made to You or a Gift Card with the agreed value added to it has been issued to You. Title to/ownership of the watch passes to Us at the moment payment is issued to You by BACs or Our Gift Card is issued to You with the agreed valuation loaded on to it.


We are committed to protecting your personal data. The information You give us will be processed to enable Us to provide the Service. This information will also be processed if We need to address any complaint or problem or notify any relevant authorities of any suspicion We have that your watch is lost, stolen, the subject of an insurance claim or fake. Our Privacy Notice describes how We process personal data and who We share it with. You may not transfer, charge, assign or in any way dispose of our contract with You or any of your rights or obligations arising under it, without our prior written consent.

Nothing in these Terms is intended to or shall operate to create a partnership, agency, employment or joint venture of any kind between You and Us.

We shall not be liable for any delay or failure in performing Our obligations under these terms and conditions as a result of any reason beyond our reasonable control.

No purported variation of these terms and conditions shall take effect unless made in writing and signed by an authorised representative of Watches of Switzerland Company Limited.

None of the terms of any contract with You shall be enforceable by any person who is not a party to it.

Any contract between You and Us, the interpretation of these terms and conditions and all claims arising out of any contract between You and Us including non-contractual claims shall be governed by the laws of England and Wales. You and We agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales in relation to all claims arising from any contract between You and Us including non-contractual claims.

Gift Receipt Terms and Conditions

This Card can be used at any Goldsmiths store and online

The Card cannot be used at any Airport Concession.

The Card is not valid in conjunction with any other promotional offer or discounts.

Only one Card can be used per transaction online, but multiple cards can be used in store.

The Card cannot be used to purchase other gift cards, and cannot be used retrospectively to pay for orders already purchased.

The Card cannot be used in conjunction with Tesco vouchers or Insurance Claims.

The Card will expire 24 months after its last use.

Goldsmiths is unable to replace the card if lost or stolen.

The value of the card cannot be exchanged wholly or partly for cash.

Orders placed on the day of the gift card activation will be subject to despatch delays of 24 hours.
