THE HISTORY OF ORIS WATCHES

Founded by Paul Cattin and George Christian in 1904 in the Swiss town of Hölstein, Oris first created wristwatches in 1925. In 1938, Oris watches introduced its first watch for pilots, featuring a big crown to enable its wearers to easily change the setting whilst wearing gloves.

1952 saw the first Oris automatic watch with a power reserve indicator and a patented mechanism. 1991 saw another huge pioneering achievement when the Calibre 581 was released, featuring a moon-phase module. Thirteen years later, the Quick Lock Crown system was launched, requiring only one single clockwise turn to secure it.

2013 saw the release of Oris ProDiver Pointer Moon. Influenced by Oris watches’ dedication to diving, this was the world’s first mechanical watch to show both the lunar cycle and the tidal range.

In recent years, Oris has partnered with the Australian Marine Conservation Society to protect and preserve the Great Barrier Reef and also joined forces with the Common Wadden Sea Secretariat as part of Oris’ Change for the Better campaign. The company has launched limited-edition watches to support and raise awareness for these causes, including the Oris Aquis- Dat Watt Limited Edition men’s watch.

CARING FOR YOUR ORIS WATCH

Built to last, an Oris watch can be treasured for a lifetime if it’s looked after. Follow these simple steps to ensure your new watch remains in perfect condition:

  • Clean dials, metal bracelets and rubber straps with soapy water and dry with a cloth, particularly if your watch has been exposed to salt from the sea.
  • Avoid exposure to cleaning products and cosmetics.
  • Try and avoid your watch being too close to large electronic devices that might interfere with the mechanisms.
  • Try not to leave your watch in extreme temperatures for a long period (below -5°C or above 60°C).
  • Depending on use, have your Oris watch serviced every few years to ensure all mechanisms are working correctly and to protect its longevity.
