08/07/2009 - Palladium Wedding Rings

We think of palladium as a new metal to jewellery but is has been used before especially in the late 1930’s when platinum was being used for military use. For the first time palladium is now available in all Goldsmiths Stores.

Less expensive than platinum (and 18ct white gold), our palladium range of wedding rings is focussed on Men’s heavier styles, offering platinum look with a much lower retail price. Our range is priced in line with the marketplace to ensure we are competitive. Palladium is a white metal from the Platinum family; however it is lighter, softer and easier to work, although still harder than gold.

Being a naturally white metal there is no need for rhodium plating, unlike 9ct white gold and 18ct white gold. This is a great feature as all plating will eventually come off with wear, and items will need re-plating.

Palladium does not discolour / tarnish at normal temperatures so keeps its white lustre. It is strong and resistant to denting and scratching; although with daily wear it will show signs of surface scratching.

Palladium will be treated the same as other precious metals used in jewellery and will have its own compulsory hallmark from 1st January 2010. The hallmark may be available prior to this date subject to changes in the hallmarking act being made law. When available we will have all newly purchased stock hallmarked.
