In these uncertain times, we know that some of our wonderful customers who have upcoming weddings have had to postpone them. While our stores may be closed for browsing at this time, our websites offer you a full range of beautiful bands to peruse. It was once said to start buying your rings around four to five months before your wedding, leaving a little longer if it was bespoke or being engraved. Some people, however, choose to buy their wedding bands, and even eternity rings, at the same time as an engagement ring, and this is where a bridal set is the most obvious choice. A bridal set is an engagement ring and wedding band that sits perfectly together. We do, however, have a wide selection of different wedding bands to suit all, and to match well with a variety of different diamonds or gemstones.
Rings, or circles, are representative of infinity whereby there is no beginning and no end. This then makes sense in terms of wearing an engagement ring, or a wedding ring as it symbolises love and the unity of two people becoming one. According to the tradition, a wedding ring is to be worn on the left hand ring finger due to the association with the main vein connecting the finger to the heart. Originally, rings were just made into full circles, often in hammered metal or with stones cast into them.
However, this began to change when engagement rings were introduced. An engagement ring is a precursor for the wedding ring. It signifies the commitment of a couple with the intention to wed, and there is a lot more focus now on an engagement ring to be the statement piece of the two. With the introduction of fancy shapes like marquise, pear and even larger diamond stones, it meant that the design of wedding bands had to alter slightly.
Due to larger stones that often covered a good proportion of the front of bands, there were concerns of scratching or damaging wedding bands or covering some of the ornate detailing that was designed onto the ring. The styles for both wedding and eternity bands then were adapted and featured dips in the ring so the stones would fit comfortably. These now range from slight dips for smaller rings, to triangular points that would work with marquise or pear rings.
Shaped bands can be worn to beautifully encase an engagement ring or as the perfect statement right hand ring. Our new additions to our diamond set shaped bands, as well as our brand new plain shaped bands, are perfect for creating a unique look whatever your style.
