Pioneers since 1905, Rolex is at the heart of Swiss watchmaking. With over 100 years of experience in producing some of the world’s most technical watches, we will be keeping a close eye on Rolex at Baselworld 2017.
Founded in London by Hans Wilsdorf in 1905, Rolex set out to create the most accurate and reliable wristwatches in the world. Using small and very precise movements from Bienne, Switzerland, Rolex began its journey to convince the public of the reliability of resolutely innovative timepieces.
By 1914 Rolex had become the first wristwatch in the world to receive the Swiss Certificate of Chronometric Precision and also be awarded a class “A” precision certificate. From that moment onward, a Rolex wristwatch was synonymous with precision.
By 1919, Rolex had relocated to Geneva, a city known internationally for its watchmaking, with Montres Rolex S.A. registering in Geneva by 1920.
Over the last hundred years since its inauguration, Rolex has always been a name closely linked with the world of sports, aviation, diving, motor racing and expeditions due to its technical performance and countless valuable attributes. Iconic watches from Rolex such as Submariner and Cosmograph Daytona, to name just two, have moved from strength to strength and grabbed the attention of watch enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts alike.
Firmly in line with the original models launched in 1953, the Rolex Submariners functionality and vigour swiftly became iconic. Originally designed for Divers, the Submariner is contained within the renowned Rolex Oyster case, with luminescent hour markers, a solid link Oyster bracelet and rotatable bezel. This is truly a watch whose design matches its functionality.
Originally introduced in 1963, The Cosmography Daytona was designed with professional racing drivers in mind. With its highly reliable chronograph and bezel with tachymetric scale, it allows drivers to measure average speeds. From then, a relationship was formed between an iconic name and the high-performance world of motorsport.
